Not So Handy, Man
I take back anything good that I said about the handyman who was taught by his father and seemed “so perfect.” I have a shitty vanity in my bathroom that I want to remove and replace with a respectable pedestal sink. There will be some re-tiling necessary requiring a wet saw. I will be doing the re-patching and painting myself and I have the needed tiles and sink. There is really not that much labor involved. Certainly not enough for a $500 quote. That’s right – 5 bills. I was so floored I had to ask him to repeat himself. Needless to say I told him that I was going to pass. After a couple conversations about it with friends I came to the conclusion that I was probably being had. HOT! Whatever. You get in what you put out.
I called the contractor who went MIA on me. He was predictably apologetic with a full range of excuses. Fine. I told him that I completely understood that he was busy and had other jobs, but I would really like to get my bathroom done. It is affecting my mood. He was suprisingly understanding and I felt we had reached a new level in our relationship. He said he would get back to me by Monday. At the very least I will have three days of hope.
