Just One More Thing

Posted by Ma Hazzard

I remember nine eleven five years ago:

I remember when you called me at work after the 2nd plane hit the Twin Towers.

I remember how you and I cried over the phone together.

I remember calling Aunt Mar when I heard that a plane had hit the Pentagon because your cousin Suzie was stationed there. Poor Aunt Mar – she was living in Las Vegas at the time so it was only 5:30 AM or so and I woke her up with a frantic question of “Is Suzie OK?”……….woke her from a dead sleep – she had no clue what had happened. I was in my own ‘reality’ time.

I remember all the years you & Carmen were growing up and telling you, reinforcing in you, that you lived the the greatest, safest country in the world.

I remember thinking of Dad that day. He was a proud Vet… and had suffered so much fighting for our country that we didn’t even know of all his medals until after he had died… he could never speak to them… but his history and friends told us at his funeral!

I remember wishing and praying that you and Carmen would be able to continue living in a place that was safe…

And now and always, I remember how important it is for me to pray for World Peace… every day. For my children.

Lost in Tennessee Says:

Ma Hazzard, your words summed everything up perfectly. It seems some 300 million watercolors were crafted on September 11, 2001 immortalizing the emotions of every American of canvas. Sadness was captured by blue while red displayed anger. Finally, yellow represented hope. I also remember every phone conversation on that day. I even remember the most trivial details including the dinner menu offered to members of my household (whom were unable to muster up anything that resembled an appetite). Consequently, every detail of that day is forever branded on my own watercolor. I just hope we as a nation never succumb to the kind of hatred that created such a dark day in history.
