Logo Doco

Posted by Johnny

One of the reasons for this trip to Boston was to attend the open casting call for a new Logo TV documentary that they are doing in P’town this summer. For the life of me I could not understand why they chose P’town in mid February to hold the call. From November to mid April there is really not a whole lot going on there except unemployment checks and alcoholism. But whatever, it’s not my show right? On Thurs a friend from P’town called me to say Logo was moving the call to Boston. Well duh! I can’t imagine what they ran into there. It’s like an arctic clam bake out there, plus they had to have been bored out of thier minds. Ugh!

They booked a really beautiful pool hall called Felt for the call. Can you guess why? It was just as I thought it would be, a bunch of twenty somethings all acting as if they were audtioning right there for some big Broadway play. Some of them acted as if they were giving monologues to anyone who would listen. Eventually they called your name, took a Polaroid and brought you over to a small stool in front of a camera under a hanging light. The questions that followed were typical: Tell us about yourself? How old are you? How did you hear about the show? blah, blah, blah.

Then came the funny question, “What do you do?” I contemplated avoiding it, but decided to lay it all down right there. They didn’t seem suprised at it or interested in it for that matter. It was refreshing. I was able to talk about me and they asked about me. They asked me what drew me to P’town, how I got there, and what I planned to get out of the show. The entire thing lasted 15 mins and then they said the inevitable “Thanks, we’ll call you.”

I really don’t have that much invested in it. I will be coming back to Boston for the summer no matter what. Do I want to have a leisurely summer or have a pack of production people peering over my shoulder the entire time? I don’t know. It would be cool to get my face out there – among other things. I always say that what is meant to happen – will. So that’s that. You walk in and give it your best shot, act like yourself and keep the monologues for the General Hospital audition.
