Escape To Palm Springs
Mike arrived at 1o pm! He looked exhausted and complained of stomach pains, I told him that two days of drinking Red Bull and those other crack-in-can drinks aren’t so good for the stomach lining. We went for a drive to look for an open restaurant. Slim pickins late on Sunday evening. We found a great French style bistro and had Pork Medallions and Salmon En Croute. Very nice, definitely a place to keep in mind. I had been purposely vague in my description of PS to Mike. After all, you really cannot explain something to somebody and say “OK, this is what it’s like” just like when a customer asks “how is the 98 St. Julien, what does it taste like?” I cannot answer that, I explain what I find in it, or about it, but ultimately… it’s all relative.
Mike had this idea in his head of tumbleweeds rolling around and stray dogs roaming through trash bins in packs. He was quite surprised to see such an amazing landscape and a downtown area complete with shops and ice cream parlors and GREEN!…..Lots of GREEN! I explained that PS is built on a huge underground lake, hence the vast number of golf courses. He was floored. It was really cool to see his eyes open up to this whole new world. I felt lucky to share that with him.
It’s amazing seeing somebody after a couple of years apart. To be reconnected and see just how much you have both have grown – especially with an x b/f. We are not the same people anymore, that is obvious. He was amazed that I had a book by Anne Lamont and a subscription to National Geographic. When he opened my fridge and found my collection of sprouts and organic what-have-you, he blurted “since when?” That’s when it hit me. He had no idea what I do now or how I live these days.
Over dinner we caught up. Again hearing him speak on this on that and what he thought about this and that, well, it was really nice to see such growth, same goes for me. He couldn’t believe some of the things I have done, buying a place, buying a truck, taking sewing lessons and studying for my exam. This man that I shared so much with for a year of my life has changed and now he is back.
