Carbon Copy

It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I happen to agree. If someone follows your example in their own life or chooses to dress in a way similar to you, than you must be doing something right, right? Maybe.

Artists often describe their artistic process by revealing what inspired them in their endeavor. Inspiration is indeed distinct from imitation by virtue of the end result. Therefore, inspiration is higher praise than imitiation because the original was simply a seed that grew into something completely different. Elvira said it best in her movie when she described her dance finale choreography as “ripped off, ‘er um inspired by Flashdance.” Yeah, it was ripped off.

What is this all about, you ask? Well, I have to be nice. I can’t point fingers or name names as Mr. Hazzard would surely release the hounds on my ass. But I ask you, if you paint the Coca-Cola logo on the side of your red van will people not think of Coca-Cola immediately? Why would you do that? Especially if you happen to be in the soda business. I’m just sayin’…

Or Is It Memorex?
